How to choose your deodorant well for the day to day?

Choosing the appropriate deodorant is a question that worries us a lot on a day-to-day basis. Cases of hyperhidrosis or irritation in the armpits are relatively frequent and very uncomfortable.

Smells and their perception is something very personal. Just as personal as everyone's body odor. There are people who smell stronger than others.

The problem of sweat is not only its smell, it is the ring or stain it leaves on the clothes. Although we all sweat and it is a physiological mechanism for regulating body temperature, we all want to hide it.

How many times have you not taken off your jacket for fear of having sweat on your shirt?

To solve all these problems, deodorants came into the world. You can find them in all possible types: for excessive sweating, for sensitive skin, with or without perfume, in roll-on, stick, spray, cream ...

Our entire body is full of microscopic "good" bacteria that have a preference for warm and moist places, such as the armpits.

On the other hand, sweat is produced by the sweat glands. We have two types of glands: eccrine sweat glands and apocrine sweat glands.
The eccrine glands are distributed throughout the body, they generate more than 90% of the total sweat and their concentration is mostly water.

Apocrine sweat glands are found primarily on the scalp, genital area, and armpits. This type of sweat is what bacteria like because it is full of proteins and lipids.

What is the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant?

As we have just seen, the culprits of everything are bacteria and sweat glands.

Deodorants fight bacteria by inhibiting their growth and reproduction and thus decrease body odor. Many deodorants have perfumes in their formulation to help mask the unpleasant smell of live bacteria that are doing their thing.

Antiperspirants exert their action on the sweat glands thanks to aluminum salts. Both aluminum hydrochloride and aluminum chloride occlude the glands, limiting the sweat they expel to the outside. Less sweat, less food for bacteria, less odor.
